What is a beautiful XSLT transformation?
Occurrence of xsl:next-match, possibly also with one or more tunneled
parameters, often serves as an indicator of an elegant XSLT
transformation (and it tells me that the author knows how to
virtuously employ XSLT core concepts such as template matching,
priority, import precedence, tunneling etc.).
See how Gerrit has changed the criteria from being beautiful to being
elegant.
Earlier this week, I came across this self-serving quote from David
Hockney [1]:
Art has to move you and design does not, unless it's a
good design for a bus.
I think that people do not try for either art or beauty in their XML or
XSLT but do try for simple (Andrew) and elegant (Gerrit), and we
recognise their art and its beauty when they succeed.

Tony Graham.
