XML development?

Was anyone else intrigued by this slashdot piece?

SGML, XML, ....

Lessons learned and improvements offered?
The line that hit me most was
"YAML is better than XML but, it sucks compared to something like HTML
or Markdown (which I can teach to execs and children alike)"

Is this still the XML development list?
