Hi Chet,
Thanks so much for your quick response.
Thanks also for confirming that legaldocml-comment@ is the place where AKN practitioners meet
I tried to subscribe to both TC email lists actually and figured out soon the legaldocml@ one is for TC members only (the response to that subscription request is pretty clear)
I regret I did not keep the response to the second one, legaldocml-comment@
It said something about “blocked” or so. But I might have read the instructions better, it clearly says “blank” email, I had some stuff in there, a subject and a CC, that might have been the issue
Anyhow, happy to say that I just got into legaldocml-comment@ and managed to send my first contribution.
Looking forward to meet you and many others on that list
Best regards
Geert

Hi Geert,
I'm Chet Ensign, the technical community sheepdog for OASIS. I am sorry to hear that you've had such difficulty finding the AKN community. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
I am surprised to see that you were not allowed to join the comment mailing list. Did you take the steps listed in https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/comments/index.php?wg_abbrev=legaldocml? The legaldocml-comment@ mailing list exists explicitly to allow non-members to provide comments to and ask questions of the Technical Committee. (You can see the archive here - https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/legaldocml-comment/). If you tried to send email to the main list at legaldocml@lists.oasis-open.org, you would indeed be blocked as that list is only available to OASIS TC members.
If you did not yet try legaldocml-comment@, may I suggest you subscribe and send this message there. That will put you in direct contact with the community that has created the AKN standard.
If you did try to subscribe to that list and you were refused, please let me know so that I can investigate what happened. That is supposed to be available to anyone and if it is refusing to subscribe people, I need to get that fixed.
Thanks for continuing to pursue this community!

All,
Hopefully not considered off topic.
After waiting for over a week to be granted access to the AKN google group, that has been silent for the past 4 months anyway (still waiting for access)…
After receiving a refusal to join the comments and ideas mailing list from Oasis (maybe that requires membership)…
After some time consuming research and tweeting about it to no avail …
I must conclude that if there is an AKN community at all, it definitely is very hard to find
Whilst modelling legislation in Akoma Ntoso, there is always a book, the spec or initiatives (guidelines) such as AKN4EU or AKN4UN
Some of the ideas expressed in AKN4EU would be appealing for me, considering what I want, but seem to divert from the spec, and I am not always sure whether they work or not.
I guess I would be more interested in the process of development of these ideas and how close they are to the normative nature of the specification, rather than just reusing results.
Some normative sections on AKN are way to strict if they need to be fit in existing architectures and rather than throwing out whole sections and chunking in foreign namespaces and extensions on my own,
I would welcome a place where I could discuss these ideas with a larger community
I know I could send some direct messages and get some isolated ideas or suggestions.
But then others don’t learn from that and all I would get is isolated ideas, not a real discussion.
I want pros, cons, experiences, hear about successes and failures and base my models on all of that
DITA, JATS, DocBook and many others are good examples of how a vivid community can advance the development of a model/spec and boost the appeal of using it
I hope someone here can help.
Is there a hidden place where AKN practitioners interact?
And if not, anyone interested to help set one up?
Thanks
Geert Bormans, C-Moria BV
