Hi Folks, The philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein wrote: "The limits of my language mean the limits of my world."Using Wittgenstein's ideas is a lovely thing to do, but are you sure you are understanding what he was trying to express? Here is one explanation: <https://www.quora.com/%E2%80%9CThe-limits-of-my-language-mean-the-limits-of-my-world-%E2%80%9D-Is-Wittgenstein-correct>. In particular, "world" means more like “the totality of facts” than "everything which has value".
I understand Wittgenstein to imply something like, "The limits of the XML language mean the limits of the set of XML documents."
XML is a language. What are the limits of XML? Would you provide an example of something that cannot be expressed in XML but can be expressed in some other data language, please? Why did you insert the word "data" in there? Why not say, "some other language"? It seems like you are changing the terms of Wittgenstein's argument.
Wittgenstein's point is that language can express a set of things, but there are other things which also matter which language cannot express.
Hum the tune to Beethoven's 9th Symphony, the choral part at the end (also known as the EU anthem): "Freude, schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elisium"… That sound you just made? That is something which matters which cannot be expressed in XML.
