Minimum requirements

The objective of ASAP is to provide the minimum necessary to SOAP to
enable asynchronous messaging. 

Ideally, ASAP would only have to add one additional element to SOAP.
That would qualify as minimal, would it not? So how close can we get to
one element and still be practical and functional?
