DOCBOOK-APPS: removing trailing period from automatically generatedsection labels

Hi,

I produce PDF from DocBook XML using openjade and pdftex.  I am autolabelling 
sections by enabling "section-autolabel" in my DSSSL stylesheet.  This works 
O.K. except that all the numbers produced have a trailing period that I would 
rather not have... e.g. instead of this:

1.1. A day in the life of a life scientist

I'd prefer this:

1.1 A day in the life of a life scientist

Is there any way to do this?
