DOCBOOK-APPS: docbook and xmetal

I'm trying editing docbook-documents in xmetal.
I have download the extra files for docbock from
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/docbook/contrib/tools/xmetal/
but the buttons don't work. Can me tell somebody how I can get working
them?
