I just noticed that
<orderedlist numeration="arabic">
<listitem><para>foo<orderedlist inheritnum="inherit" numeration="loweralpha">
<listitem><para>bar</para></listitem></orderedlist></para></listitem>
is rendered as
1 foo
a bar
and not as
1 foo
1.a bar
as inheritnum="inherit" appears to imply.
