turning off chapter, list of figures and list of tables

Hi everybody!
My rootelement is book. According to the DTD of docbook the element 
chapter follows and then section. If I insert the element chapter there 
are extra pages for chapter, a list of figures and a list of tables in 
my print ouput. How can I turn them off?
