In the stylesheets, the code that generates the number labels is in common/labels.xsl,
using mode="label.markup". See, for example, the template:

My problem is that this override isn't documented and I couldn't find
the code in the stylesheets.
I have a requirement to put (lower case) Chapter X
where x is the generated chapter number.
#fail on all accounts ;-)
