DOCBOOK: a kick-start

Howdy guys, 

For my first post, I'd like to entertain you with a bone-headed
installation question.  I have the xml 4.1 version of docbook, and
psgml.  (I can fire up sgml-mode, but have nothing to do with it!)  I
have a very small clue about what to do with my fine docbook
files. can I get some pointers from someone?  I think I'd like to
"install" docbook under my home directory somewhere, if that's an ok
way to go...
