RE: [docbook] making macros

For another simplified DocBook, have a look at O'Reilly's dblite:

If you'd like to do your own customization, it might be easier and more future-proof to go for Relax NG-based DocBook V5.0, which while still a working draft is already useful:

Customization of Relax NG schema is more straightforward:
