Activities carried by ETSI and CEN for building up the new rationalizedframework of EU electronic signatures.

I forgot to circulate an email providing five cents on the rationalized 
European framework of Standards on Electronic Signatures.

In December 2009, the EC published the mandate M/460 “STANDARDISATION 
MANDATE TO THE EUROPEAN STANDARDISATION ORGANISATIONS CEN, CENELEC AND 
ETSI IN THE FIELD OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED 
TO ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES”

That mandate targets at achieving, within the EU, full cross-border 
interoperability of electronic signatures. One of the first tasks 
identified by the EC is to produce a rationalized framework of standards 
for electronci signatures, as well a number of issues that could be 
quickly fixed within the standardizaiton arena (quick fixes).

The two European standardization organizations, ETSI and CEN raised a 
proposal for the what would be the first phase of activities within this 
mandate, which the EC accepted. As a result of this acceptance, at 
present 4 ETSI STFs (Specialists Task Forces) and some other CEN 
projects (I do not remember by heart their acronyms, and names, but I 
can try to find them out), have been set up.
