Quote from the news article:

The article neglects to mention, its also transparent to an
attacker if he/she has compromised a software layer between
the application and the FDE drive.

Which explains why the CEO of Heartland Payment Systems is
calling for end-to-end encryption now that they have
discovered "encryption religion":
