I have the same concerns (not from being a
libertarian) that Dave has voiced. I reviewed the proposed charter anyhow. I thought
of it as dealing only with a mechanism. I believe that mechanism SHOULD only be
used in appropriate and lawful circumstances. I reminded myself that those of
us who care about personal privacy and overzealous, inappropriate, or downright
tyrannical intrusions have to work on those issues in the political arena, not
in the arena of technical standards. It's rather like saying a court
filing envelope can be used to submit lies as well as truths, but it's
not up to the envelope to know the difference.
