FW: Non-profit membership

We talked about this briefly in a ECF TC call on Tuesday. 
There is concern that we might be setting a precedent.  What would be
reasonable criteria for determining which non-profits should be considered for
funding their membership?



While everyone agreed there would be value in having LSC as a member,
we wondered if their real interest was in learning about and implementing the
standard.  The take-away was to get a TC member to talk to them about
their situation and encourage them to take advantage of the TA being offered
through the TC.  The TC did not vote on the question of funding membership. 
I think they’d like to learn more about what LSC would like to do. 
We would definitely like LSC to join, we just aren’t sure it would be
appropriate to fund their membership.



Any thoughts or concerns?

might want to consider the funding request below.  While OASIS
doesn’t have the capacity to waive the fee for membership (in part
because we defer a large discretionary portion of the dues to your decision
making) your Steering Committee may have that capacity and desire (for the same
reason)

initiate the paperwork process with them.

I work for
the Legal Services Corporation. We are the federal non-profit charged with
overseeing the legal aid providers across the country. I work with our programs
on technology efforts. As part of my work, I have been working with the courts
on their e-filing initiatives to be sure our client population is not excluded
from the systems being developed. To do this, it would be helpful if I could
join the Electronic Court Filing Technical Committee. To do this, I need to be
a member of OASIS.





 





As a non-profit,
we do not have money in the budget to join OASIS. Our funding is fixed by
Congress each year. Does OASIS ever give scholarship memberships to
organizations such as ours? Or for individual members?
