UBL and KMIP awarded Open Standards Cup
The Universal Business Language (UBL) has been named Outstanding Accomplished TC for 2014. Tim McGrath and Ken Holman chair the TC, and Jon Bosak is Chair Emeritus. Finalists in this category include AMQP, OData, and TOSCA.
The Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) has been named Outstanding New TC for 2014. Subhash Sankuratripati of NetApp and Saikat Saha of Oracle chair the TC, and Robert Lockhart of Thales e-Security is secretary. Finalists in this category include eTMF, KVDB, and OSLC Core.
Congratulations to all recipients and finalists, and thanks to the TAB for taking on the difficult job of selecting winners from what was an extremely impressive field of candidates.
Jeyaraman, Tolbert, Walsh named OASIS Distinguished Contributors
At the Annual General Meeting of members, Ram Jeyaraman, John Tolbert, and Norm Walsh were recognized for their significant contributions to the open standards community.
Ram Jeyaraman of Microsoft played a major role in bringing AMQP to OASIS and now co-chairs the AMQP TC and serves on the AMQP Steering Committee. He also co-chairs the OData TC and is active in WS-I.
John Tolbert of The Boeing Company is pivotal in defining identity management and security standards. One of the first SAML adopters, he helped SAML become the basis for identity federation in the aerospace industry. He is also active in XACML.
Norm Walsh is known as the driving force behind DocBook, one of the most widely used publishing schemas in the industry--and the most frequently downloaded OASIS Standard of all time.
XLIFF 2.0 becomes OASIS Standard
Members have approved the XML Localisation Interchange File Format (XLIFF) version 2.0 as an OASIS Standard. XLIFF defines a specification for the interchange of localisable software and document-based objects and related metadata. Congratulations to the XLIFF TC chair, Bryan Schnabel, and to all TC participants including representatives of Foundational Sponsors, IBM and Microsoft, and Sponsors, Oracle, SDL, and Symantec, for this accomplishment.
IBOPS biometrics TC forms
The Identity-Based Attestation and Open Exchange Protocol Specification (IBOPS) TC will work to define a server-based identity standard for enabling biometric security systems to provide identity assertion, role gathering, multi-level access control, assurance, and auditing. TC proposers include representatives of OASIS Sponsors, Hoyos Labs, Intel, and Red Hat, and others. Abbie Barbir of Bank of America serves as the convener; the TC chair(s) will be elected at the first meeting, which will be held 23 Sept in Geneva. (A teleconference bridge will be provided for TC members who are unable to attend in person.) All interested parties are invited to participate; contact for details.
Business Document Exchange TC publishes Committee Specification
Business Document Metadata Service Location 1.0 defines service discovery method values for use in DNS Resource Record service fields. Congratulations to BDXR TC chair, Kenneth Bengtsson, and to all TC members for accomplishing this milestone.
Public Review underway for EDXL-TEC
Emergency Data Exchange Language (EDXL) Tracking of Emergency Clients (TEC) Client Registry Exchange 1.0 provides a standard messaging format that assists in the tracking and repatriation of displaced individuals during emergencies, disasters, and routine day-to-day incidents. This public review ends 13 Aug.
