The Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) is a single, comprehensive protocol for communication between clients and servers to manage a wide range of encryption keys. By replacing redundant, incompatible key management protocols, KMIP provides better data security while at the same time reducing expenditures on multiple products. Version 1.4 incorporates updates to Version 1.3 including feedback from RSA 2017 interoperability testing, updates to existing test cases and new profiles.

These Committee Notes are intended to complement the Key Management Interoperability Protocol Specification by providing guidance on how to implement it.

The Usage Guide provides guidance on how to implement KMIP effectively to ensure interoperability and to address key management usage scenarios.

KMIP Test Cases compliment the Usage Guide by describing a set of recommended test cases that illustrate how the protocol may be used when implementing KMIP in applications.
