Nominations open for OASIS Board of Directors Special Election
The election will be held to fill one vacant seat created by the recent resignation of Jim Hughes of Microsoft. Any OASIS member may serve on the Board of Directors. Nominations will be accepted until 18 Nov. The winner of this election will hold a Board seat until July 2016.
Frederick Hirsch chairs OASIS Board
Long-time OASIS Board member, Frederick Hirsch of Nokia, has become Chairman of the Board of Directors. Frederick, who also chairs the Board IPR Committee, is a member of the PbD-SE and SAML TCs.
MQTT becomes OASIS Standard
The Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) 3.1.1 OASIS Standard defines an extremely lightweight publish/subscribe messaging transport protocol. Because it requires significantly less bandwidth and is so easy to implement, MQTT is already broadly used in IoT and M2M applications where resources such as battery power and bandwidth are at a premium. Congratulations to TC chairs, Richard Coppen of IBM and Raphael Cohn, and to all TC participants including representatives of Foundational Sponsor, IBM, and Sponsors, BlackBerry, Cisco, Kaazing, LogMeIn, M2Mi, MachineShop, PTC, Red Hat, Software AG, and TIBCO, for this accomplishment.
WS-Calendar TC publishes Committee Specification
WS-Calendar Platform Independent Model (PIM) 1.0 defines conformance and improves interoperation of calendar and schedule models with each other and with WS-Calendar and Xcal. Congratulations to WS-Calendar TC chair, Toby Considine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and to all TC members for accomplishing this milestone.
Public Reviews underway for DSS, XACML, and TGF
DSS Extension for Local Signature Computation 1.0 extends the functionality of the core Digital Signature Service, which supports the creation of signatures on behalf of applications and/or users via server-based signature keys. This profile enables end users to use their own signature-creation devices, such as smartcards, USB tokens, smartphones, tablets, and PCs with privately held signature keys. The public review ends 14 Nov.
XACML Data Loss Prevention / Network Access Control (DLP/NAC) Profile 1.0 describes how to use XACML to express policies for data loss prevention and network access control tools and technologies. It defines standard attribute identifiers useful in such policies, and recommends attribute value ranges for certain attributes. It also defines several new functions for comparing IP addresses and DNS names, not provided in the XACML 3.0 core specification. The public review ends 6 Dec.
Transformational Government Framework (TGF): Impact of the Internet of Things 1.0 provides an impact assessment of the new opportunities becoming available through the development of the IoT on Transformational Government programs and the delivery of services by the public sector. It seeks to identify the issues that need to be addressed and makes recommendations on how TGF 2.0 can be utilized. The public review ends 6 Dec.
IAEM Conference to feature EDXL
Emergency Management TC members will participate in the Open Standards for Data Interoperability panel at the annual IAEM-USA Conference in San Antonio, Texas on 19 Nov. The OASIS Emergency Interoperability Member Section will also host a booth at the event.
TOSCA on the agenda at Digital Government event
Hosted by the Canadian High Commission, the 'Digital Services Marketplace' workshop will focus on how agile project team services combined with G-Cloud hosting will accelerate deployment of new e-services. Several TOSCA TC members will participate in the event, which will be held 25 Nov, in London.
OASIS to co-sponsor annual UBL Int'l Conference
The UBL TC will hold a face-to-face meeting on 1 Dec in conjunction with the annual conference in Stockholm, Sweden. The event will focus on how UBL can facilitate more effective information exchanges across a range of supply chain processes.
DITA TC members to support European Conference
OASIS members will be on hand at DITA Europe, 18-19 Nov in Munich, to discuss implementation content management strategies using the DITA OASIS Standard. A discounted registration fee is available.
