Regarding Specification:BASE

I cannot open my microsoft access data base (Office 2000) with BASE - first it wanted a JRE, and then after I down loaded that, it gave me and "unknown error"

Don't know if this helps or is even the right place to post this.  If it isn't please let me know.  I want Open Office to be a success.
