8.4.4 Detective Operation and 8.4.5 Highlighted Range of ODF 1.0

I do not understand the subclauses 8.4.3 thru 8.4.5.  
IMHO, they are underspecified.  They do not provide enough
background information or examples.  Moreover, the semantics 
of trace-dependents, remove-dependents, trace-precedents, 
remove-precedents, trace-errors. trace-dependents and 
remove-dependents are not specified at all.
