dialog boxes? (ODF all versions)

Dear ODFistas,

"Dialogs" are mentioned a couple of times in the spec:

"A filter button displays a filter dialog if pushed." (18.716)

and

"The latter two values can be used for template dialogs." (18.801.8)

* What is "a filter dialog" or "a template dialog"? (these terms are
nowhere defined - a formal terms & definitions section would help here).

In general, the mention of "dialogs" seems very restrictive - aren't
implementations able to design UIs around filters and templates freely,
or do they have to mimic the implementation-specific behaviour that has
been enshrined in the specification here?
