ODF 1.2cd01 -- Improper usage of OPTIONAL to express options
Committee Draft 1 contains 28 occurrences of the term OPTIONAL, used to express permission. These are surviving remnants of OASIS ODF 1.0, which relied on RFC 2119 requirements keyword definitions. Under ISO/IEC Directives Part 2: Rules for the Structure and Drafting of International Standards (5th Edition, 21 December 2004), <http://www.iec.ch/tiss/iec/Directives-Part2-Ed5.pdf> Annex H, Table H.3, MAY and NEED NOT are used to express permission rather than OPTIONAL. Recommendation: Edit the draft specification to remove all occurrences of OPTIONAL and replace them with appropriate terms defined by ISO/IEC Directives Part 2 Annex H. Best regards, Paul E. Merrell, J.D. (Marbux) -- Universal Interoperability Council <http:www.universal-interop-council.org>
