XForms 1.1, which was recently approved by the W3C, added a power() function, allowing it to calculate things like compound interest. XForms defines the function as:
7.7.6 The power() Function
number power(number, number)
Raises the first argument to the power of the second argument, returning the result. If the calculation does not result in a real number, then NaN is returned.

I wonder if that is sufficient? I know it doesn't tell you exactly what range of parameters will work, but that is going to be implementation-defined in any case.
