All of these functions have a sentence:

**** "is deprecated because it is non-portable as it uses the system's code page."

Ahem, deprecated is used to mean that a feature or function may go away in a future release. It does not mean "don't use because non-portable." 

Rather than enter separate issues for all 7 functions I have simply marked all of them for deletion.
