Second paragraph reads:

"A step count less than 3 is not valid as there would be no interpolation possible. Values above 256 need not be supported or may result in performance issues."

The phrase "not valid" is clearly wrong, should be a "shall." Is the second sentence for consumers or producers, or both? 

Suggest: 

"A step count shall be 3 or greater."

"A step count may be above 256."

Note: A step count about 256 is not commonly supported and may lead to performance issues.
