info about caracter coding

i'm using od templates, to generate
new od documents, adding text from java
application read from mysql, however 
i'm using italian charset, and i dont 
know wht's the charset coding inside od, 
how can i check it (wht's the info to 
search) so i could add "è à ò ì é" 
charset from italian chars
