I would support a 'return results' solution of this type being described .. not sure that it would need to be manadatory requirement

A function feature has been added recently to ebRS draft 4. The version is in progress and a SNAPSHOT of the spec is available here:

The current spec lack a way to return results in more flexible application-specific and query language specific formats.

A template mechanism is needed to address this limitation.
