The obvious risk is being in a position to have to explain why I don't think the Shibboleth Project should support a spec that billion dollar companies end up pushing or that I start running into vendors expecting me to integrate with when OSU starts integrating them.
If somebody in the know tells me it's going nowhere I'd ignore it, but I have no idea.
