Paul makes a good point. There are two types of refinements:

 

A derived type refines an entity defined in one of its parent types

An entity definition of a given type refines an entity defined in that type

 

Section 4.4.11.3 only considers the first case. We ought to review the document to make sure both types of refinement are accounted for in the various descriptions.

TOSCA v2.0 csd03 section 4.4.11.3 states that the type definition must be derived from the type in the parent type definition.

When parameter definition is used in a node type definition to map an interface operation output to a node attribute there is no parent type definition. However in this case a type definition in the parameter definition
 must match the type definition if one exists the operation type definition.
