I was asked at the last meeting to put together an example of using the 
UBL model spreadsheet for other languages.

My suggestion was to have separate 'mirrored' model spreadsheets 
containing translations for the BIE definition, object class, property 
terms and their qualifiers.

I used French (badly) as my target language - but the principles should 
apply to all.  (see the attached Excel spreadsheet - 
UBL-Address-FR-1.0-beta.xls)

By keeping the UBL Name (the tag name) in English it means the XML 
instances will be compatible in any langauge (see the attached sample 
XML file) - only the namespace tells us this used the French schema.

By keeping the Dictionary Entry Name (the ebXML CCTS name) in English we 
stay compliant with that library. This is also the unique name for any 
BIE so it can be used to map different translations of the same BIE.  In 
effect, it means we dont need pointers or references - the Dictionary 
Entry Name will do it for us.

The attached schema fragment shows how the foreign language meanings are 
conveyed  in the documentation of the schema.  I used the Business Terms 
to include a literal translation of the Dictionary Entry Name as another 
aide to understanding.  Note also that I had to change the encoding to 
support French.

I thought it would be interesting to see a Chinese or Japanese version 
of the spreadsheet -so i attach the original English one 
(UBL-Address-EN-1.0-beta.xls) if anyone wants to try this in their own 
language and translate the entries in columns C, D, E, F, G, N and Q. 
 if you send it back to me i can generate a sample schema fragment from it.
