UTF-8

Following up on a discussion in today's NDRSC call, here's some
background with regard to the decision by the ISO - IEC - ITU -
UN/ECE Memorandum of Understanding Electronic Business Management
Group to standarize on UTF-8.

Resolution 01/08 (MoU/MG/01 N 83) adopted 2001-11-8/9:

   The MoU/MG recommends that all e-business standards generated
   by member organisations should support the UTF-8 encoding
   defined in ISO 10646 as the sole encoding for information
   exchange. Member organisations are invited to inform the MoU/MG
   by end February 2002 of any business or technical barriers to
   implementation of this recommendation.
