Help Get the Vote Out for UIMA v1.0
Hi All,

Our UIMA spec is finally up for the
official OASIS vote!! Please do what you can to get the vote out from *your*
member organization and to spread the word to your OASIS friends. Only
your organization's voting representative can vote, so it would be helpful
if you can remind them to vote on the UIMA ballot.

"...If you don't know the identity of your organization's
voting representative is,

go to the My Account page at: http://www.oasis-open.org/members/user_tools
then select the link for View Company Roster, then look for the name designated
as "Primary". ... "

The ballot closes on February 28th.

" ...The voting representative from each OASIS
member organization should submit

the organization's vote by 11:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (US) 28 February

2009. ..."

Feel free to use the following short
paragraph below to remind folks about UIMA as you prompt them to vote.

=================================

UIMA stands for the Unstructured Information
Management Architecture. The proposed specification defines a standard
for data representations, data transport formats, component classes and
service interfaces to support the interoperability and integration of text
and multi-modal analytics. UIMA is critical for an increasing number of
applications designed to analyze content in text, speech, audio or video
to extract application-specific semantics. These applications are becoming
essential to every day scientific, business and social computing. They
invariably use, reuse and combine independently developed component analytics.
UIMA makes it possible to integrate these based on a standard and to use
the popular open-source Java (and C++) UIMA framework (http://incubator.apache.org/uima/)
to implement and deploy integrated solutions for a wide variety of application
domains including: business and government intelligence, human resources,
bioinformatics, advanced search and content analysis, the semantic web
and many others.

=====================================

The voting details from OASIS are in
the attached note.  All OASIS organizational members and the UIMA
TC members should have received it. The specific paragraph on the voting
mechanics is here.

The voting representative from each OASIS member organization
should submit

the organization's vote by 11:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (US) 28 February

2009. Voting will be conducted using the OASIS member database tools. To

cast your ballots, go to the Voting group ballot page at:

http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/voting/ballots.php. You will

need to log-in to the database tools in order to cast your ballots; if
you

have not yet obtained your username and password please contact Scott

McGrath () for help.

The Committee Specification has had its required 60 day public review,
and

the review materials were sent out to the membership of OASIS for the

required 15-day familiarization period. (Those materials can be found at:

http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/tc-announce/200902/msg00001.html.)
As

the required review and familiarization periods have now been completed
it

is time to vote. The applicable section of the OASIS TC Process is at

http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/process-2008-06-19.php#OASISstandard.

Voting to approve the work product of our Technical Committees is a key
step

in the OASIS process, to better assure our broader user community of the

quality and applicability of the methods or TCs create.  I strongly

encourage each member organization to consider the works submitted for

approval and participate by casting a ballot.

As each OASIS member organization has only one vote, participating employees

of your organization should provide their input to you, their voting

representative, so that you can decide how to vote on behalf of your

organization.  We point that out to them, on our [tc-announce] list,

concurrently with this message.

The voting representative from each OASIS member organization should submit

the organization's vote by 11:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (US) 28 February

2009. Voting will be conducted using the OASIS member database tools. To

cast your ballots, go to the Voting group ballot page at:

http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/voting/ballots.php. You will

need to log-in to the database tools in order to cast your ballots; if
you

have not yet obtained your username and password please contact Scott

McGrath () for help.

You may change your ballot until the time that balloting closes. Ballots

will be publicly archived. Comments may be made but are not solicited as
the

specifications already have been subject to public review.
