Also, our text states:  Currently device numbers are assigned quite freely: a simple request mail to the author of this document or the Linux virtualization mailing list footnote{ https://lists.linux-foundation.org/mailman/listinfo/virtualization  } will be sufficient to secure a unique one.  Meanwhile for experimental drivers, use 65535 and work backwards.  What will be the new procedure?
