It's how you enable extensions that matters. XML enables extensions by
being a markup language for writing other markup languages. XML itself
isn't extensible in the way Lisp or Prolog is. It's still very useful
and certainly not a dead language. Not many languages are extensible in
a useful way (though I'm not sure where extension by module, a la RSS,
fits in).
