Not much. The benefits I see are
* some modest additional enforcement (your NOTATION-typed attributes
have to name declared Notations);
* some modest documentation/semantics support, in the form of the
System and Public IDs in the referenced Notation;
* some modest functional specification for free, i.e. the fact that
the NOTATION-typed attribute applies to its element's content.
