You can still do that.
We took it out because it was not sufficiently defined since the XRD spec does not mention trust or linked XRD documents in any way and so it was odd to have an element there without any real (one that would support interoperability) explanation of it.
What I would like to see is a separate spec for a trust profile of XRD that would accommodate the OpenID, host-meta, and WebFinger requirements. Feel like writing something?
