You might consider an editorial refactoring so that the pieces you
want aren't quite so deep in your hierarchy. Otherwise, I think you
may want a custom stylesheet that does some xml-to-xml transformations
to build the "upgrading manual" from the full manual without relying
purely on the profiling code.
