On my Debian, I just use jade.

jade -t tex -V tex-backend \
        -d lib/print.dsl \
        /usr/share/xml/declaration/xml.dcl FILENAME.db
jadetex FILENAME.tex

I wrap it in a Makefile so I can type just "make FILENAME.pdf". I send
you the Makefile in private.
