I can see that defining %mathml.hook; as mathml would make a valid content model, but it seems odd that the is part the model group in the <equation> definition, not part of a model group contained in %equation.content;, which is where %mathml.hook; is referenced. What about: <!ENTITY % equation.content (alt?, (graphic+ mediaobject+%mathml.hook;)) > Will %mathml.hook; be also added to <informalequation> and <inlineequation>?
