FWIW DITA procedures (tasks) have two types of results:
<result>, which follows the <steps>. This is the expected result from completing the entire set of steps.
<stepresult>, which is the expected result of completing a single step.
What I'm missing in DITA (and I have not yet had the time to read Larry's proposal) is a troubleshooting, or trouble, element that's available both in <step> and after <steps>. The idea would be to provide information on what to do if you don't get the expected result from performing a step or the set of steps.
