Any objection to substituting 'and' for '&'

Toby, I agree that Google searches might perform better (when users think the formulation is "and"), but the better reason IIRC is that style manuals will urge use of the word spelled out in titles rather than the character "&".   In prose it may not matter as much, but I think "and" is expected in the title of a work. Apropos of which: ... spotted in The Chicago Manual of Style (14th edition), as to representing titles of published works 7.129 "Retain the spelling of the original title, but change  &  to  and ... rcc says: I think the rule "change" assumes that the use of "&" in a title of a work is irregular, hence "change" it to the expected convention. -rcc On Thu, Jan 3, 2013 at 4:07 PM, Considine, Toby (Campus Services IT) < [email protected] > wrote: Even if it is consistent now, I, personally, find your argument that it googles better compelling. tc "Computers are useless. Nevermind. I just realized that it is "&" throughout the content. I should have looked more carefully. I withdraw the request. /chet On Thu, Jan 3, 2013 at 4:57 PM, Chet Ensign < [email protected] > wrote: Hi folks, I'm QC'ing the 'Retail Block & Tier Prices' Committee Note. Does the TC have a problem with changing the title to "Block and Tier"? It seems to be done both ways when I do a search on Google, though 'and' seems to get more results. I prefer to avoid non-alphanumeric characters in titles if I can - 'and' strikes me as more formal. Thanks - this CN will be ready to announce soon.
