Notes from KMIP interop call, October 28
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Here are my summary notes from today's interop call. Please let me know of any additions/corrections you might have.
Regards,
Mathias
KMIP interop 2010-10-28
Attending: Bruce, Mathias, Alan, Stan
Mathias found some bugs in the Use Cases document: Use Case 8.2 has some font irregularities, also the TTLV encoding shown for some of the messages is broken.
Summary of the proposal for use cases for the Basic Asymmetric Key Profiles: Use PKCS #1 as the key format type, need to have key pair on the server for the Certify operations but neither Register nor Create Key-pair mandatory in the profile in question; in general, the current use cases 8.1 and 8.2 are ok, missing things are mostly certificate-related. Comments and questions sent to the interop-list before next week's call would be helpful, not much discussion today.
Discussion on interop type at RSA: prototypes would in practice have to be used for interop-testing new (v2.0) functionality, but what about having product interop? Bruce said marketing people are more excited about showing real products, Alan asked if there are any other clients available that speak KMIP other than IBM's tape library. Bruce said Gordon would probably know best. Stan said that from the HP side it would only be prototype interop.
Status of implementations: no updates from IBM or Cryptsoft, IBM fairly confident to have a prototype to use for doing interop at RSA, same for Cryptsoft according to Tim last week. Stan said HP would probably also be able to have something similar to this year, although getting resources is not easy. Alan said SafeNet would definitely be able to show a client, would like to have a server also but couldn't make any promises there. No update from Bob regarding the EMC/RSA status.
