Hi StC members, I have 1 nominee for the two seats and I have extended 1 time and did not get another nominee. I will proceed with the election to get the nominee seated properly. Then that StC needs to make one of the choices, see MS Policy, https://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/member-sections , Section 5.5 Any quorate ballot that does not fill all available seats will be addressed at the first meeting following the ballot closure. The Steering Committee must vote one of the following options: ~ To accept the results and automatically reduce the size of the Steering Committee and amend the ROP without further action required by the Steering Committee or OASIS Board. ~ To initiate a nomination period leading to a Special Election. ~ Leave any open seats to be filled at the next annual election. When is the next StC meeting? Scott and I need to be on the call to discuss a few items. Thank you for your help through this process Jim! The two ‘At-large’ Steering Committee members will join Robert O’Brien, Laurel Shifrin (LexisNexis), and Adam Wyner (University of Aberdeen). Any LegalXML MS participant may make nominations to the Steering Committee. However, only Member Section Members may be a candidate and nominees employed by organizations already represented on the LegalXML Steering Committee are not eligible. If you aren't currently active in the LegalXML Member Section [2], now is a great time to join. The process to join is simple but it must be completed during the nomination period. Send an email to [email protected] stating your intent to join the LegalXML MS. NOMINATION & ELECTION SCHEDULE Nominations will be held 6 th of September – 19 th of September 2013 The election will be held 23 rd of September – 6 th of October 2013 Both the Nomination and Election periods may be extended in order to afford the broadest participation on the process. NOMINATION PROCESS Any LegalXML MS participant may nominate a candidate via email to: [email protected] ; please state 'LegalXML SC nomination' in the subject line. Prior to being confirmed as a candidate, each nominee must: 1. Accept the nomination 2. Confirm his/her ability to meet the time commitments of the position (participation in a one hour teleconference each week, promote the work of the Member Section, additional outreach activities as needed); 3. Provide background information and a position statement describing his/her qualifications and motivations for serving on the Steering Committee; 4. Be an LegalXML Member Section Member. If sufficient candidates are not identified by the nominations closing date, the nomination period will be extended by two weeks. ELECTION PROCESS The two new Steering Committee members will be selected by the MS Qualified Electors, in a closed ballot. The ballot tabulation process and quorum requirements are detailed in Section 5.5 of the Member Section Policy [3]. Results will be announced immediately after they are tabulated and confirmed. Each LegalXML MS Supporting Entity has one Qualified Elector who casts the single vote on behalf of his/her organization. Unless otherwise designated, the organization's Primary Representative serves as the Qualified Elector. The Primary Representative may defer the voting member role to another employee member by sending an email to [email protected] ; any such change should be in place before the ballot is cast. The nomination and election procedures for the Steering Committee are defined by the OASIS Member Section Policy [3] and the LegalXML Member Section Rules of Procedure [4].
