Ed. Note It isn't clear if this is horizontal or vertical space or how much space. 

Oliver says: "I do not know this attribute very well. 

My opinion is that this is space that is add between Asian, Western and 

complex text *portions*. Thus, it would means that the space is added 

between characters. 

Am I right? Please correct me somebody, when I am wrong. "
