Indeed, everything up to the next blank character is considered to part of the name. If you don't separate the '+' in additive expression from the name with a blank, then the '+' is considered to be part of the name. You don't have additive expression then, but a name.

cr and lf are not permitted in the attribute values. You could insert them only by using XML character references anyway, and that would not be really useful.
