In Calligra the positions individually are not inherited. Inheritance is on the level of  a set of tabs. Say you have:

parentstyle
 tabs
  tab at 1
  tab at 2

childstyle1

childstyle2
 tabs
  tab at 1.3


The childstyle would effectively have the 2 tabs of the parent, and childstyle2 would effectively only have  the single tab at 1.3.
