Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (TOSCA-22) TOSCA Versioning

Thomas Spatzier commented on TOSCA-22:
---------------------------------------
Some suggestions that came up in the TC meeting on July 5th:
Versioning could be done using the targetNamespace in which NodeTypes, RelationshipTypes, ServiceTemplates etc. are defined. This is done in other specifications as well.
Another option would be to introduce a simple string attribute that indicates the version.
The problem with the string attribute would be that it introduces more complexity in identifying a type, because the identity of a type would then be a combination of {targetNamespace; id (i.e. local name); version}. Using a namespace-based versioning scheme would just require {targetNamespace; id} as identity of a type.
It seemed like there was some consensus in the call, that we should try to not make versioning overly complicated but stick to a simple scheme in TOSCA v1.0.

> Originally sub-issue 7 in TOSCA-20, called "NodeTypes should have a "Version" field ," no consensus was made on this at the 6/7/12 meeting. This lack of consensus was probably the result of unclear scope. Reconsidering on 6/14, the TC has decided that the scope of the versioning issue is greater than this, e.g., do we mean of model / version of entities / etc., and requests Tobias, as original proposer of the "seed issue" in TOSCA-20, to take ownership of this issue.
> See minutes from both these meetings. Others are invited to contribute/comment, of course.
