In the original work that was submitted to the TC, the authors used XML 
substitution groups to represent relationships within the XML schema. So, for 
example, the message from a coordinator to a participant is an AssertionType, 
but this is akin to a base-class in an object-oriented language for the real 
messages that are sent.

The problem is that very few tools can deal with this at the moment. So, 
although it may be an elegant solution, it causes problems when you come to 
try to implement WS-CAF widely.
