RE: [dita-fa-edboard] Tweaking the navigation

Bob,
Thanks for the feedback on the tweaks. The teasers on the homepage are not just
blogs, they're the most recent new posts of any kind. We can make them just
blogs if we want--and/or publish more or less of them. It's pretty easy to
configure.
As for the meta description, Neil feels that meta tags are largely ignored by
search engines these days. They're most often used by sites trying to
artificially inflate their search engine rankings. He feels the best way to get
good search engine rankings is to have good content, that other sites link to
as good content, and to link to other good content.
Thanks,
Carol

Hi Carol,
I like the action/task orientation of browse - conribute, etc.
I also like the title bar, where you incorporate the full tagline of the
website.
Now get Neil to add that tagline to the meta description.
I like the full tease from five blog posts instead of the lonely titles we have
on DITA.XML.org.
Search in upper right would be a distinct improvement.
Cheers.
Bob.

When you have a minute, please take a look at http://bpel.xml.org. This
focus
area is still under construction, but I used the space to play around a
bit
with the FA navigation in an effort to encourage contributions and make
it
easier for people to quickly understand what's on the site. Instead of
organizing around "Knowledge base, Today, and Wiki", we give people
ways of
interaction--Browse, Contribute, Discuss, Syndicate.
The wiki pages are the only Drupal "book" on the site, so users can
easily add
new pages into the outline. The outline will be displayed in full at
http://bpel.xml.org/wiki-pages .
The homepage body features teasers of the five most recent pages. We
can make
our current <soapbox> article "sticky" so it's always the first.
We could eliminate or reduce the horizontal orange rule and move
everything up
a bit.
We could move the Search box to the upper right corner and move "About
this
site" into the footer.
Please let me know what you think.
